Umi's info
I'm from Greater London, United Kingdom and I'm here to find support, get financial advice, get business planning advice, motivate others, find inspiration, expand my network
So far I have a great idea, written a business plan, gained funding
I worked at the Institute for Global Ethics (IGE) for 6 months it was there the idea of Youth-led Media Network was born.
IGE’s aim was to help improve the representation of young people in the UK press, it felt the best was to combat this was though empowering young people already creating media, the first step was to organise a Youth-led Media Summit. It was attended by young people from across the UK, media professionals and media giants such as the BBC and the Guardian. The day consisted of debates, presentations of good practice and practical workshops.
After the Summit the project snowballed, demand for more like it grew and its potential to create change became obvious. Young people and the media called for more hence the creation of the Youth-led Media Network.
Due to funding and capacity issues the Network couldn’t continue to be run by IGE, it needed far more attention if it was to for fill its ability and the Institute needed to pay fair attention to its other projects.
When my contract with IGE ended I was given permission to take the Network with me and the team of 12 volunteers and turn it on to its own enterprise run solely by young people
I'm interested in magazines, photography, websites, newspapers, radio shows, campaigning, youth empowerment, access to opertunities, fairness and social change!
